camerabodyeye workshop by Camille Jelemen & florence freitag (transatlanticbirdscrew)

Inspired by transdisciplinary artist Wu Tsang’s exhibition statement „there is no nonviolent way to look at somebody” (aquote from the text Sudden Rise at a Given Tune, written in collaboration with Fred Moten), we are interested in developing ways of filming and relating to the body of the camera that allow for something else than the trope of oppression and objectification of the filmic subject to emerge.
Through our workshop we ask:

How can agency be more ethically distributed amongst the person filming, the camera body and the filmic subject-whether human or other than human? How can the event of filming be a practice of consensual intimacy? The camerabodyeye is a concept and an entity that addresses the complex relationship between a camera and a human body in the act of seeing and filming. The human gaze and the camera gaze behold both common and different abilities in the ways they perceive, frame and record the world. We are interested in what the union of our bodies with handheld camera bodies produces in terms of an embodied relational experience. Through the camerabodyeye we practice embodied thinking and reflect upon our sensorial and sensual ways of being in the world.

Człowiek i aparat fotograficzny posiadają wspólne i odmienne możliwości w sposobie postrzegania, kadrowania i rejestrowania świata. Nas interesuje kwestia, co daje połączenie naszych ciał z kamerami ręcznymi w odniesieniu do ucieleśnionego doświadczenia relacyjnego. Dzięki zastosowaniu oka ciała kamery ćwiczymy myślenie ucieleśnione i zastanawiamy się nad naszymi zmysłowymi i sensorycznymi sposobami bycia w świecie.
