‚The Sailor and the Sticky‘ ist eine Solo-Performance, die die multiplen Körper untersucht, durch die sich einePerformer*in auf der Bühne bewegt. Das Stück nutzt Ironie, Absurdität und echtes Einfühlungsvermögen, um die Körper auszugraben, die wir in uns selbst vergraben, um uns an das moderne Leben anpassen zu können. In diesem Stück trete ich als ‚Sailor‘ auf, einer Figur, die lose von Cathy Acker’s ‚Empire of the Senseless‘ inspiriert ist.
Sailor reist durch ein unzusammenhängendes Tagesfernsehprogramm, in dem Sailor versucht, ein Gespräch mit ihrem‚großen letzten Triumph‘ zu führen. Darin durchläuft Sailor Themen wie Körperdysmorphie, Versuche der Selbstbestätigung und das Verschwinden von dort, wo man bereits war. Sailor inszeniert ein Ritual des Scheiterns, um Dichotomien der Identität zu befragen. Sailor findet Solidarität mit den Subtexten von Popsongs und vergräbt sich in der eigenen, süßen und klebrigen Realität.

‘The Sailor and the Sticky’ is a solo performance investigating the multiple bodies that a performer moves through on stage. It uses irony, absurdity, and real empathy to excavate the bodies that we bury within ourselves in order to be able to adjust to modern life. In this piece, I perform as ‘Sailor’, a character loosely inspired by Cathy Acker’s ‘Empire of the Senseless’.
Sailor journeys through a disjointed daytime television program in which Sailor tries to have a conversation with their‚great final triumph‘. It sees Sailor running through themes of body dysmorphia, attempts at self-affirmation, and disappearing from where they already were. Sailor enacts a ritual of failure in order to interrogate dichotomies of identity. They find soldiarity with the sub-texts of pop songs and bury themselves in their own sweet and sticky reality.
Caroline Beach is a Texas born choreographer, performer, dancer, musician, media maker, and well-rounded nonsense person based in Dresden and Berlin.
